Clubs and Activities
Student Organizations
Procedure for forming a new club: Any number of students who feel the need for organizing a new club may do so by presenting a written constitution which meets the approval of the Principal. A faculty sponsor is required. Current organizations include:
● Chess Club is an opportunity for students to build fellowship while expanding their mind with the game of chess
● DECA is a business club where students can explore entrepreneurship and the business world.
● Drama Club is open to all students interested in improvisation and theatre opportunities. Each year the Drama Club holds auditions for the school play.
● E-Sports is a way for students to take their love of video games and turn it into a competitive event which also explores the world of STEM.
● Fall Musical is open for all students in the school through auditions. This is a full-scale Broadway style musical each year in which singers, dancers and actors are needed.
● Forensics Team is open to all students interested in competitive speaking and acting. The team travels around southwest Michigan competing against area schools in over 13 events.
● Green School is an environmental club to better the grounds of Loy Norrix and the community as a whole.
● Gender and Sexuality Alliance works to advance the Loy Norrix inclusive environment when it comes to the LGBTQ community and its allies.
● Improv Team (I.T.) is made up of 8 players. Team auditions are held in the month of May for the following school year.
● Key Club is a student leadership club that meets to improve the climate and culture of Loy Norrix.
● Knights for Christ is a group of students who meet to study the Bible, have discussions, and encourage each other. It is open to all students
● Link Crew is our high school transition program that welcomes freshmen and makes them feel comfortable throughout their first year at Norrix. It trains mentors from the junior and senior class to be Link Crew Leaders. The participants will be trained in the necessary leadership and life skills such as setting and accomplishing goals, collaborating with others, effective communication, time management; meeting deadlines, and problem-solving.
● National Art Honor Society allows visual art students to be recognized for their work and accomplishments at the high school level. Membership is granted by art instructors based on review of their artwork.
● National English Honor Society (NEHS) is the only national organization exclusively for high school students who have shown scholastic merit in English. Immediate benefits of affiliation will be national recognition, scholarship eligibility, and opportunities for national networking with others who share enthusiasm for, and
accomplishment in the language arts. Students must submit an application and have an overall GPA of at least a 3.0 and a cumulative GPA of a 3.0 in all of their English classes.
● National Honor Society (NHS) is one of the nation’s premier organization established to recognize outstanding high school students. More than just an honor roll, NHS serves to honor those students who have demonstrated excellence in the areas of Scholarship, Leadership, Service and Character.
● PeaceJam is part of PeaceJam International, which connects high school students with Nobel Peace Laureates. Clubs are required to complete one service project each year.
● Slam Poetry is a way for students to express themselves and find their own creative energy through poetry.
● Stage Crew is a weekly after-school program that teaches the various aspects of technical theatre and stagecraft. This includes lighting, sound, set construction, scene painting, and much more. Students also provide technical support for both school and outside rentals of Kasdorf Auditorium.
● Sword Club is an afterschool board game and more club.
● Third 90 is an opportunity for students to partner with local colleges to conduct real action research. Professors meet with students to guide their work.
● U Knight’s purpose is to provide positive social engagements and friendship-building for Norrix students who might not have such opportunities. The goals of the club are to provide positive role models
● Yoga Club is a great way to bring some mindfulness to students who want to relax.
